BELINDA
Doll by Sointu Öhman
from... FINLAND
|
|

This is my baby doll Belinda. She is made from Darlene Rausch's wonderful Bonnie pattern. Pattern was in Soft Dolls and Animals September 2009 issue. I love Darlene's doll patterns, because they have no seams in their face.
Belinda is soft sculpted doll and she is made from polyester knit fabric. Her eyes and lips are painted with acrylic paints. Her eyelashes and eyebrows are embroidered. She has movable arms and legs, because they have plastic joints. Her wig is mohair hair and sewn hand to her head. She is about 18 inches tall.
Belinda is almost 8 months old and she has learned to sit well by alone. She is very proud of herself being able to do this and she likes to play with her many toys. Belinda has pretty baby wicker crib, where she can sleep, when she gets tired of playing. Her mother has sewn her dress and matching bonnet, panties and bootees from eyelet fabric and trimmed them with lace. Her toys are purchased.

Louane
Doll by Maria del Valle Olivera
from... Spain

"Louane" is stuffed with pure wool, is built with the technique of a Waldorf doll and measures more or less 16.5'' of height.
I used my own pattern. I also designed and did her clothes with knit and hook.
When I did that little white teddy bear for her, I used a pattern from Sue Pendleton
Louane is the little granddaughter from my very dear friend Simone who live in the north of France. When I saw the last photo that my friend sent of Louane, that photo inspired me a lot and then I started to play with dolls, as you can see!!

Honey Bunch
Doll by Amanda Kuhlman
from... Owensboro, KY

This is "Honey Bunch" pattern designed by Carolee Creations. I made her from very soft suede so that she is soft and comfy to hold. I made her little jammies from the Honey Bunch pattern and covered her little tufts of soft hair with bows to match her jammies.
This was the very first doll pattern that I purchased and made when I began my dollmaking journey. I have entered this pattern by Carolee Creations to honor Carolee and show my appreciation for her designs and the pleasure the dolls made from her designs have brought to me and those who received one as a gift or purchased one that I made.

Lucy
Doll by Jacqueline Johnson
from... Fremont, Ohio

Lucy was made using Sandy Eding's preemie pattern with a few tweaks of my own.
When my grand daughter came a month early I began looking for a doll that would suit her. I came across this pattern and so it began.
She is made using fleece and is weighted to 3.5 lbs. hand sculpted right down to finger nails and lines on bottom of feet and palms of hands. As I make the dolls I learn more techniques and try to use them as I go. A simple diaper and hospital hat is all she needs to be content.

Baby Sera
Doll by Laini Ibrahim
from... Fort Mill, SC

Baby Sera isn't quite awake from the night. Her days and nights are still confused. She just learned to sit, and Mommy hoped that propping her up gently might wake her up. To no avail! Sera is still about to topple over as Mommy tries to get her ready for the day. Gramma says that all of her baby milk has gone to her hair, and she doesn't have enough cushioning on her bottom! Finally ready, she stretches out, eyes still closed.
This is a pattern that I designed myself. She is meant to be a doll that can be played with and hugged, and so it has minimal seams and is stuffed lightly. Her 100% cotton skin is stuffed with Polyfil throughout. She has a wig cap made from salon quality human hair extensions. These have been finger combed into several styles, and do not tangle. Sera can fit newborn size clothes, diapers, and shoes. She is wearing clothing purchased for my youngest daughter and was "handed down" when it no longer fit.

Gwen
Doll by Melody Korlinchak
from... New Holland, PA

This baby doll is made from a class on the Doll net website. The designer of the doll is Gail Kellison. She is the Awake/Asleep Pacifier Doll. I am naming her Gwen after my youngest granddaughter.
This doll presented some new challenges for me. The biggest challenge was making the open mouth on both sides of her head. Her head is on a doll joint, so it can easily be made to look like she is wide awake, with just a turn of the head, she is asleep. The 'sleeping side' of her face was also a new challenge for me; I had to make the eyelids with lashes so that she looked like she was sleeping on that side. The class I took to make her was great because I was able to work at my own pace, and the directions and patterns were always clear and easy . The class even had the patterns for the clothing and shoes. I don't make a lot of dolls , but I like to try and make a new doll to enter that will not only challenge me, but will also make someone smile when they see her..

|

This is my doll; his name is "Ari". He is 12 inches high. I made him using a vintage Alice Brooks pattern and Windsor Comfort material. His features were painted using a combination of airbrush and fine paintbrush details, and his wig is made out of curly fleece material from a pattern I designed myself. His little sailor outfit is made out of flannel and trim using a vintage Carolee Creations pattern. And though you cannot see it, he is wearing a handmade flannel diaper fastened with small blue safety pins.
I love making dolls, especially cloth dolls, using patterns from the 1940's and back as far as I can. I am currently studying the construction methods of dolls such as the Babyland Rag and Columbian and I hope to make a lot of these types.

The pattern of this doll is mine. My pattern is based on newborn Alice pattern by Judi Ward and the preemie pattern by Sandy Eding. This doll is a newborn and is made with velour and has a fleece 'under-skin', so the doll is softer and strong. He has plastic joints at arms and hips. The face which is embroidered, the toes, the nipples and belly-button are needlesculpted. The fingers are articulated with chenille stems and he has an opposable thumb. He has a wobbly head. He wears real baby cloth.
This babydoll is a demonstration doll and is weighted with sand and steel microbeads. The weight is carefully distributed. The rest of the doll is stuffed with kapok and polyester fiberfill. This doll can take real baby positions and feels like a real one ! I made several of them : chocolate or pink flesh, open or closed eyes, with or without hair (if the doll has hair, I paint it with acrylic paint and iron it)
