Fjóla
(which means violet/viola in Icelandic)
Doll by Anna-Maria Göllner
from... Bremen, Germany
|
|

Fjóla is an 8 inch small doll made from sheepwool and cotton tricot. Her face is needlefelted, her hair is a crocheted mohair cap. She wears a bodysuit and a skirt with a crocheted underskirt. She also wears a hairband, has removable fairy wings and a violet shaped magnetic pacifier made from polymerclay.
Everything (except the underskirt) was entirely made by me.
Doll Story
I spent my favorite holiday in Iceland, a beautiful country with breathtaking landscapes full of mossy stones under which - so the legends say - the fairies live.
Of course we didn't see one as they are very shy.
But back at home I couldn't believe my eyes!
There she was in my suitcase: This tiny fairy with her delicate wings!
I didn't know what to do with her first but since her folk would be in Iceland and she was with me I figured I had to do the best I could. Turns out baby fairies love to be outside. When we can't go outside Fjóla (that's what I named her) cries a LOT. Thank God, she had her pacifier with her when she arrived here because that is the only thing keeping her from crying then.

Hawking the Littlest Angel
Doll by Caroline Palmer
from... Chicago, Heights IL

Original, no commercial pattern used on the doll or his clothing. Clay head, arms, and legs, cloth body.
This doll was made for my nephew's first Christmas. The face is modeled on the real little boy as he was at the time (picture of the real Hawking included below). I gave the doll wings and the blue suit so it went with the book, The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazewell, which was part of his present. The stars were added to the costume at the request of my mother, his grandmother.

Loren
Doll by Lindi Turnipseed
from... Starkville, MS

Loren is my Easter baby from the Annie (1977) pattern by Rainie Crawford. She is made in a peach colored cotton fabric, stuffed with non-allergenic polyfil and has an embroidered face rather than the iron on crayon face the patterns originally called for. I used the original wig pattern of faux fur on her but have since changed to what I feel is a more child friendly hair of yarn like a Raggedy Ann's hair.
Loren is dressed for Easter in her bunny print dress and bunny shoes and is 13" long. She wears a blonde faux fur wig and has an embroidered face rather than a fabric crayon face as the original pattern called for. Loren is holding her pet chick Snowy. I made her body and all clothing.

Holiday - GIRL'S DAY IN JAPAN - HINA MATSURI HOLYDAY
In Japan, every year on the 3rd of March comes a traditional celebration known properly as momo-no-sekku (桃の節句) but more casually referred to as Hina Matsuri (雛祭り) or, in English, as Girl's Day. Which is rather appropriate since the holiday is focused on a family's hope that their daughter or granddaughter will grow up healthily, happily and successfully. On the actual holiday, March 3rd, the family celebrates with traditional food and a small at-home party.

Zoe Frieda
Doll by Theresa Morano
from... East Amherst, NY
|
|

Zoe Frieda's First Easter
Zoe Frieda was made with my own pattern and is completely hand sewn. She is one of the first dolls I ever made. This was my first time using my pattern. I also designed her dress and hand sewed it without using a pattern. Her face, limbs, and body are all soft sculpted. I used faux hair to give her a head full of curls. I used a colored pencil to blush her cheeks and give her lips a soft pink color.
Zoe Frieda is all ready for her first Easter! She is all dressed up for the occasion wearing a floral dress and an Easter bonnet.
The blanket, bonnet, basket, and toys were purchased.

Bartholomew was created by me in wool and love. He has an inner wool and fabric structure designed to let him move like a real baby.
He is weighted with glass bead and to help him feel real in our arms.
Bartholomew is 21" long and fits into preemie or newborn baby clothes. His hair was made with a soft Tibetan Lamb wig.
He was colored with craft paint (that is why he is NOT WASHABLE and I highly recommend him to adult collectors or 8+ gentle kids).
