JOSEFINA
Doll by Sointu Öhman
from... FINLAND
|
|

This is my soft sculpture baby doll Josefina. She is 18 inches tall and I created her by Darlene Rausch's Bonnie pattern. She is made from polyester knit fabric. Her facial features are painted with acrylic paints. Her eyelashes and eyebrows are embroidered. Josefina can sit very well, because she has plastic joints on her legs and arms. Her arms and legs can be moved to different positions. Her wig is mohair and it is sewn into her head. I have made all Josefina's clothes. I have sewn for her pink dress, bonnet and pants from the polyester fabric. They are trimmed with gathered lace. I have also crocheted a white jacket for her. Her shoes, lace trimmed socks and toys are purchased.
Josefina likes to sit and play with her sweet teddy bear. She has also baby bottle and two pacifiers in case she has a bad time and she needs them. Now she seems to have a good time and she is smiling.

CASSANDRA
Doll by Sointu Öhman
from... FINLAND

I have named my soft sculpture baby doll Cassandra. She is 15 inches tall and I made her using Darlene Rausch's Emily pattern. She is made from polyester knit fabric. Her eyes and lips are painted with acrylic paints. Her eyelashes and eyebrows are embroidered. Her curly hair is a mohair wig which is sewn into her head. Cassandra can sit without support, because she has plastic joints on her legs and arms. She has also rotating arms and legs, which can be moved into different
positions. Cassandra is wearing a pink dress, bonnet and pants, which I have sewn from cotton fabric. They are trimmed with gathered lace. Her shoes, lace trimmed socks and toys are purchased.
Cassandra has many teddy bears, with which she wants to play often. She has also a pacifier in case she has a bad time and starts to cry. She likes to drink milk from her baby bottle and she has two favorite cows with her in the picture.

Brolly
Doll by Barbara Schoenoff
from... Champaign, Il

"Brolly" a fey baby. He was adapted from a pattern by Jennifer Carson PEAPODS. He is made of wool, faux fur and he wears a cotton diaper made from the same pattern by Jennifer Carson. He is 22"
My son found Brolly while hiking. He was in distress and alone. Max waited an hour to see if someone would come for the little fellow but no one did. As it was getting dark and more dangerous Max brought him to me. Clearly Brolly - the only sound/word he speaks - was a fey baby but that was as far as we could tell. He was dirty and hungry but what would I feed him? I tried milk, cereal, applesauce and finally eggs. The eggs did the trick! He ate them and then happily allowed me to clean him up and get him ready for sleep. Then I set about contacting the Fey Council. I surely didn't want trouble with the other realm. So far we haven't heard anything. Brolly is thriving and a lovely guest. I would like him to stay with us. I hope it's possible!

Savella
Doll by Melody Korlinchak
from... Coalport, PA

My entry for the contest is a pattern by Foster Children, designed by Esther Lee Foster. I am naming this little doll Savella, in memory of my Husbands Aunt. I was given the pattern by my Mother-in-Law and I reduced the pattern to 40% it's original size . The sculpting on her face was a challenge as it is so small, she is just barely 9 inches tall. My Mother-In-Law also gave me the beautiful lace edged fabrics and I decided to use it to design her clothing. Her dress and bloomers are made from the fabric. I also added a little bonnet and apron to the outfit. She needed shoes and so I made her little sandals to finish off the outfit. I added extra sculpting to her hands and feet as well. Her hair is a curly wool that I had and I stitched it to her head. Her eyes are hand-painted on. It was a fun project.

Little Susie
Doll by Melody Korlinchak
from... Coalport, PA

Little Susie is a remake on a doll pattern I used nearly 30 years ago. The pattern is Tiny Tots by Connie Elisworth and Melanie Fabian. I loved making these dolls but this time I decided I wanted her to be ''TINY''. I reduced the pattern by 60% and then made my own clothing patterns. I also added extra stitches and sculpting to her body, face, hands and feet. I hand-sewed the bumpy yarn on her head to give her a curly look and added the little roses. She has jointed arm and legs. Her eyes are hand-stitched, as well as her mouth and nose. I also knitted her a little blanket. She is a perfect size for little hands!

Cupcake
Doll by Loretta Headrick
from... Wiley, Texas

This happy baby is ready to visit Grandmother who lovingly calls her Cupcake. Cupcake rarely fusses and is happiest after her bath, cooing and "talking" as she is being dressed. Whether wrapped lightly in her receiving blanket or on her sunny dressing table, her sweet disposition sparkles in her blue eyes, and her bright cherry lips are drawn up in a charming grin. She looks like pure confection in her blue, soft cotton dress trimmed in satin ribbon and antique lace, and her bonnet that enhances her skin and light blond hair.
Cupcake is my original mask sculpted of paper clay, designed to reflect the style of larger baby dolls of the 1930's with their wide, expressive faces and pure colors. Her face has been covered with cloth, painted with acrylics and sealed with Mod Podge Matte. Her body was made from a 1950s pattern by Economy Design and constructed with Doll Face Pink craft velour. She is 18" long and has a turning head and moveable arms and legs. Her clothing design was included in the pattern and was lovingly handmade by me.

Baby Mae is dressed in her rosebud onesie and ready for Spring!
She has two budding teeth to add to her smile.
She loves to play 'peek a boo' and pulling her bootees off.
Her doll friend Betsy is her favorite toy today.
I hope you like her as much as I do.
I have made Baby Mae and her pink rosebud outfit with onesie, bootees and
hair ribbon from my own patterns and design. Her curls are from a wig that I have unpicked, restyled and stitched to her head. Her face and limb features are soft sculpted. Her eyes, mouth and finger and toenails are painted and varnished.
Baby Mae is 41cm/16 inches tall. I knitted doll friend Betsy from a Jean Greenhowe pattern.

Baby June Bug
Doll by Phyllis Kiefer
from... Metairie, LA

Baby June Bug was created by me in June, 2016, from an original doll pattern I created. She is a 8 month old 15" soft sculpted baby doll made of doe skin. Her nose, mouth, dimples and toes are hand sculpted. Her mouth is hand painted with pink acrylic paint. She has blue inserted acrylic eyes with glued on real eyelashes. She is wearing a strawberry blonde wig that is glued to her head. She has moveable joints with moveable fingers and is able to sit on her own. The onesie that she is wearing was purchased by me and so was the cupcake applique that was iron on to the onesie. Her multi-colored tulle tutu was handmade by me. I made the pearl earrings and bracelet she is wearing. The headband and flower was purchased separately and I sewed the flower to the headband.
She is so girly that she loves to dress up especially in her cupcake onesie and her multi-colored tulle tutu. She absolutely loves her headdress, which she must have on her head, and she always has to have her pearl jewelry on since her Birthstone is a Pearl. She likes wearing her pretty girly lacey socks with her white cloth shoes. She always needs her binky.

Zoey
Doll by Bonnie L Fontaine
from... Manville, RI

Zoey is only the second baby doll I have ever made. I usually make adult women and girls. She was an amazing journey!
I used Judi Ward's Four Stages of Infancy pattern for the 6-9 month old. I made her more like a 12 month old. She is made of deer suede and stuffed very firmly. Her head can be turned and she has cute, pudgy jointed arms and legs. Zoey's hands are hand sewn and her fingers are wired and finished with fingernails and toenails. Her face is hand painted using acrylic paint, colored pencils and a sepia pen. She has a sculpted navel and bum. She is blushed with artist pastels and sealed for permanence. Her ruffly panties, shoes and dress are hand made using the beautiful pattern that Judi provided. She suggested felt or vinyl for the shoes, but I made lined slippers with snaps and a buckle. Her wig is purchased.
Zoey was an incredible project, and I will not be selling her...I love her too much!

Roxy Rose
Doll by Barbara Johnson
from... Greensboro, NC

This little one is Roxy Rose. She is named for two precious granddaughters born 2 months apart this year. I decided to use Kezi's pattern of Dear Ones as the basic design. She is 18" tall. I wanted her to become a 9-10 month old so I did alter the facial sculpting to achieve a much younger face. I used her little namesake to help me sculpt. She decided that she wanted to have "ginger" hair so I crafted a separate wig to fit her. Her outfit was purchased from a used baby clothing store and then altered and embellished. Her head and body is made of 100% cotton knit fabric and her arms are jointed. I used a combination of acrylic and prisma pens to complete her little face. I hope you like her.
