ELSA MARIA

Doll by Sointu Öhman
from... Finland

Elsa Maria is 20 inches tall girl doll. I made her from Darlene Rausch's wonderful Marilyn pattern, which was published in Soft Dolls and Animals magazine August/September 2014. Elsa Maria likes to dance folk dances, that's why she is wearing our national costume. Her national costume consists: white shirt, red striped skirt, white apron and black lined vest. I sewed them from cotton and polyester fabric.

Elsa Maria's skin is made from polyester knit fabric. Her features are soft sculpted. Eyes and lips are painted with acrylic paints. Eyelashes and eyebrows are embroidered. Her blond wig with braids is purchased and sewn in her head. She has movable arms, because they have plastic joints. Her legs are sewn onto her body. She can stand with a stand and sit well. Elsa Maria has many farm animals and she likes to play with them. Her toys, shoes and socks are purchased.

Nanook

Doll by Shelley Hawkey
from... El Cajon, CA

Nanook is very proud to say hello from his native state of Alaska.

He is 2 years old and is weighted to sit by himself. He is 20" tall and is made by my own original design for this challenge.
His body and face are made using Doe Suede fabric and his facial features are soft sculpted with watercolor pencils used for color.
His clothes and boots were made by my own design and were created with Doe Suede with Faux Fur around the edges.
Details for his coat were made using beads made from shells that look like ivory.

Liberty

Doll by Melody Korlinchak
from... Coalport, PA

Hi my name is Liberty. I just love dressing in the colors of our flag, Red, White and Blue!

This time for the challenge I decided that I needed to make a doll using my experience as I have made many dolls over the years but none of my own design. I needle sculpted the face and then added the fabric and painted her face. I wanted to have her be about the same size as my 18 inch dolls. Her arms have joints and I tried to add some extra sculpting to her arms and legs . I just loved the looks of the hair locks and crocheted them into a wig. I used parts of Simplicity patterns to make her clothes. The boots are made using a pattern from Pixie Faire.

Betsy

Doll by Melody Korlinchak
from... Coalport, PA

Hi my name is Betsy. I Love the USA and was named after Betsy Ross who made the first American flag.

I was made from Kezi's DEAR ONES pattern. My clothes were made using Kezi's patterns except for my shoes and socks. My socks were made from a re-purposed pair of socks and my shoes were crocheted to go with my outfit. My sweater was hand-knit using a free pattern that I received from a friend. My hair was made by using yarn to crochet the hair into a cap and it was stitched onto my head.

Indigo

Doll by Jennifer Williams
from... Talking Rock, GA

This is Indigo. She's approximately 12" tall. She is an all American girl who loves climbing trees, playing dress up and she loves her little rag dolly (handmade from felt from my own design). Indigo is designed using my own pattern (which is now available as an ebook tutorial in my Etsy shop for anyone interested in learning to make their own) She's made with wire armature inside her arms, legs and neck, so she can hold cute poses for photo's, which makes her really fun to play with and adorable sat on a shelf in her different poses.

Her clothing is handmade by me and her boots are store bought to fit 1/6 ball jointed dolls, so there's lots of shoes that can be bought that fit her too. Of course most American girls her age (or any age for that matter) are always happy to shop for shoes! Indigo is made using all natural materials, needle felted wool forms her body and then she's covered in 100% cotton doll skin fabric. Her hair is a wig, handmade by me from Tibetan lambskin fur.

Berry

Doll by Jacqueline Johnson
from... Fremont, OH

This is "berry". she is made using a pattern from leisure arts "strawberry shortcake crochet dolls". I made her while spending time with my kids and their projects at the county fair... this project could be carried and not too in the way.

I was also able to share crocheting with folks and I really enjoy that. She is completely crocheted along with her cloths.
thankfully she only took me the week to complete. (I must have a lot of waiting time at the fair...lol)

Giulio

Doll by Zingariello Francesca
from... Genova, Italy

This is Giulio, he was made using natural materials. He is made with a combination of different techniques. Based on waldorf doll heads, the inner head is made from tightly rolled wool. Needle felting techniques are used to add facial features and then a cloth over method to cover the wool. Facial details are enforced with coloring and stitches.

His eyes are embroidered with cotton floss. His hair are made from natural wool. He is made from my own pattern. He can sit or lie flat. He is approx 20 long. His clothes are in felt.
